Infographic of number of people engaged in community outreach pilot projectOver the past 12 months, focused on building local capacity for sustainability and inclusive community development in Merri-bek’s north.

Working alongside multicultural communities in the north, we’re turning sustainability into a shared journey, one that strengthens climate resilience, advances equity, and empowers local voices to lead lasting behaviour change in our community.

Learn more and read our 12-month outcomes report.

In the first 12-months we have:

  • Engaged over 12 multicultural community groups with 560 migrant community members across Merri-bek north in discussions around sustainability and climate.
  • Established a community volunteer group, The community leaders speak a total of 12 languages including Urdu, Arabic, Dari, Pashto, Italian, Punjabi, Persian, Farsi and Nepali.
  • Delivered 7 sustainability-focused events on energy efficiency, waste reduction, active transport and climate resilience.
  • Partnered with more than 15 local grass-root organisations and various internal and external stakeholders to run our events, workshops and monthly information pop ups.
  • Worked with multiple community and faith leaders to address sustainability from an intersectional lens.
  • Signed up 5% of residents to our Solar and Thermal Subsidy Program who heard about the support through the outreach.
  • Recruited 65 residents for Heat Health Workshops.

These outcomes show the power of place-based work to turn sustainability strategies into real, on-the-ground change, strengthening local networks while contributing to Merri-bek’s environmental and climate resilience goals.

Grateful to all our local partners and community members who have been part of the project.

Together, we’re creating a more sustainable, connected, and resilient Merri-bek.
