Get ready for the annual Olives to Oil Festival, brought to you by CERES, Merri-bek, Darebin and Yarra Councils! The festival brings people together from across Melbourne to harvest olives and have them pressed communally into delicious, local olive oil. Help us make use of this precious urban food resource which is often otherwise wasted.
The program looks slightly different this year to help accommodate the demand and keep the program viable. You must book a ticket to participate, and tickets are only available to residents of participating councils:
The steps are:
1. Book your ticket / drop off date (Merri-bek residents choose ‘Northside’)
2. Join family, friends and neighbours to pick your olives no earlier than 2 days before your drop off date to ensure freshness.
3. Weigh your olives (weight needs to match the weight you estimated when you booked).
4. Bring to the drop off point at CERES Brunswick on the date you booked – either Sunday 5 May OR Sunday 19 May. Your olives will be weighed, and your containers returned.
5. Your olives will be sent away to be pressed communally.
6. Pick up your share of olive oil on Sunday 16 June at CERES Fair Food Preston.
