We’re excited to share with you our new Merri-bek E-Bike Library! It’s like a regular library, but instead of books, you can borrow e-bikes and e-cargo bikes for your adventures.
Thanks to local bike shop Cargocycles and the Sussex and Fawkner Neighbourhood Houses, Merri-bek residents can try out e-bikes for free for 2 weeks.
Why use e-bikes?
E-bikes are a fun and easy way to get around. You can use them to go to work, do your shopping, take the kids to school, or explore the cool places in Merri-bek.
They’re also a healthy and friendly choice for you and the environment.
With our E-Bike Library, you can try riding an e-bike without paying anything upfront!

What’s included?
When you borrow an e-bike or e-cargo bike, you’ll get some extra gear to help you ride safely. This includes a bike lock to keep your bike secure and child seats if you want to take your kids along. Our Neighbourhood House staff will help you set everything up so you’re ready to ride safely.
After two weeks, you can return the bike and either book in to borrow another one or think about buying your own!
How does it work?
Joining the Merri-bek E-Bike Library is simple. Before you get riding, here’s what you’ll need:
- You must be at least 18 years old and live in Merri-bek
- You should know how to ride a bike
- Bring your own bike helmet
- Have a safe place to store the e-bike when you’re not using it
- You’ll need Bicycle Network Rider Insurance – our Neighbourhood House teams can help you set this up.
