For Fawkner resident, Zavi making their family home all electric is part of leaving something better for future generations.
It also makes great financial sense.
“I started to make my home all-electric because it was an old home and we were getting a lot of bills,” she says. “We wanted to bring the cost of living down in this time of inflation.”
Zavi has installed solar panels, reverse-cycle air conditioners for heating and cooling, an energy-efficient heat pump for hot water, and an induction cooktop. “I also got an electric vehicle, because with my other car I was spending $500 a month on fuel,” she says.
“There is a lot of help available online, and there are government rebates for some of these things as well, so it helps you financially.”
In the future, Zavi plans to get a battery installed to store the excess solar electricity produced during the daytime for use in the evenings when the whole family is home.
“If somebody wants to get these things done in their home, my advice to them is to do your homework properly and take baby steps towards achieving bigger goals, one thing at a time,” she says.
