Do you own an electric vehicle?
Register your interest to take part in a new trial that will see homes across Victoria have a free smart wall charger installed (normally valued at $2,000).
The smart wall charger is up to three times faster than the regular charger commonly supplied with a new electric vehicle and will allow local electricity networks to dynamically manage when charging occurs during the 12-month trial.
The EV Grid: Enabling Electric Vehicle Friendly Networks and Neighbourhoods trial is led by local electricity distributor Jemena and is supported by the Australia Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).

Why the trial?
The trial enables participating electricity networks to test demand response capability using electric vehicle charging infrastructure, with customers rewarded for their participation.
The networks will install network monitoring equipment to better understand the network conditions and impact of the EVs in real time. It also aims to understand electric vehicle owners’ willingness to allow their electricity distribution company to control the charging of their vehicle at certain times.
The trial will help assess how managed charging could support the transition to electric vehicles as well as enable “absorption” of excess renewable energy in the middle of the day. This is currently the only trial that is led by electricity distribution companies and focused on managing domestic EV charging.
Who can apply?
For those who live in the distribution areas covered by AusNet Services, Evoenergy, Jemena, TasNetworks and United Energy, you’ll need off-street parking so a dedicated circuit can be wired from your switchboard to the wall-mounted charger.
Households with Rooftop Solar PV installed can also participate in this trial and may benefit from the smart charger enabling day charging.
EV drivers can register their interest for the trial via the EV Grid website: https://www.evgrid.com.au/.
