Merri-bek Council was one of the first local councils to sign the Better Futures Australia (BFA) declaration a joint statement of support that brings together private and public sector leaders in taking ambitious climate action. By working together we can meet Australia’s commitments under the Paris Climate Agreement and create better futures for us all.

We are featured in a recent video calling on other councils to sign up to the Better Futures Declarations.

Moreland’s Deputy Mayor, Mark Riley and the Mayor of Adelaide, Gawler, Mitcham, and Hobart, and Sydney, discuss how together, local governments are driving climate action and invite everyone across Australia to get involved in accelerating the transition to zero emissions, and creating better futures for us all

About Better Futures Australia

Better Futures Australia is a civil society initiative to connect climate champions from all sectors of our society – businesses and investors; state, territory and local governments; academic and cultural institutions; farmers; healthcare and social institutions; communities; and First Nations peoples.

The network of partners are amplifying climate work already underway by bringing together public and private sector leaders to scale success stories and demonstrate Australia’s readiness for an ambitious national response to climate change.
