Sustainable House Day returns on Sunday 17 May 2026, with neighbours across Australia opening their doors to share practical, real-world solutions for more comfortable, affordable, and climate-ready homes.
Open Your Home and Inspire Your Neighbours
Whether you’ve transformed your home with a clever retrofit, completed a stunning renovation, or built a sustainable haven, this is about real people sharing practical solutions that work. Homeowner or renter, house or apartment, every home has something to share.
Sustainable House Day isn’t about perfect homes. It’s about neighbours inspiring neighbours — and helping others take their next step. Around 70% of visitors plan to make changes to their own homes within six months of attending.
Support from Council
Merri-bek City Council is a partner of Sustainable House Day. We can assist with the development of videos and promotion of your open house. For more information on support email zerocarbon@merri-bek.vic.gov.au

You can choose how you participate
You can show your home in person on the day, or simply upload a video tour.
When opening in person, the day is structured into four bookable sessions. You choose how many sessions you run and how many people attend each one. You are always in control of timing, group size and how the experience works in your home.
If you are still deciding, there are upcoming online information sessions to walk through what is involved and answer any questions.
