Do you rent or own a rental property in Moreland?
Heating upgrades for eligible rental properties are now available as part of the Victorian Government’s Home Heating and Cooling Upgrades Program.
Announced on 1 November 2021, the new $1000 rebate helps replace inefficient gas heaters, electric heaters, and wood heaters with energy-efficient reverse-cycle air conditioners. A further $200 rebate is available to cap old gas heaters, along with $500 to upgrade an electrical switchboard, if required.
Households with no heating system may also apply.
A safer option
Energy-efficient reverse-cycle air conditioners are a great way to lower running costs and improve health and wellbeing. They are also safer than many gas and electric systems as they mitigate the risk of burns or monoxide poisoning. The system can also be used to heat the home in winter and cool it in summer.
Next steps
If you’re renting, contact your property manager or landlord let them know about the Home Heating and Cooling Upgrades Program at: www.heatingupgrades.vic.gov.au/upgrades-rental-properties
For rental providers, Victoria’s new rental laws came into effect on 29 March 2021. Under these new laws rental providers have certain responsibilities for gas and electrical safety and must install energy-efficient heating. Utilising this $1000 rebate, where eligible, to switch to an energy-efficient reverse-cycle air conditioner in your rental property is a great way to ensure safety and supply energy-efficient heating for tenants.
