Terra Madre is the latest Merri-bek business to invest in renewable energy and install rooftop solar for a clean energy future.

The organics supermarket newly arrived on Sydney Road, south of Merri-bek Road, installed a 139kW system on its shop and adjacent warehouse.

The installation of the system was supported by Merri-bek Council through an Environmental Upgrade Agreement.

The agreement is a fixed rate, long-term loan administered by Council and paid back through rate installments. No upfront capital or security is required.

Going solar is a ‘no-brainer’

Merri-bek businesses like Terra Madre are switching to solar to reduce their operating costs and protect themselves from rising energy prices.

Terra Madre co-owner Ryan O’Connor also says they did it because “that’s where the world is heading. You can get a low interest loan and if you know you’re going to be around 5+ years, it’s a no brainer.”

If you own or lease a commercial building in Merri-bek you may be eligible for assistance installing solar. Other environmental upgrades such as switching to energy saving heating or lighting are also available.
