Neighbours United for Climate Action (NUCA) is Merri-bek and Darebin-based community group that is all about local-level connection and action to address the climate emergency.
NUCA has established a vibrant, diverse, and empowered network of neighbourhood-based action groups. They share resources and support each other’s campaigns to inspire momentum and create the change they want to see in the world from a grassroots level.
In August 2019, NUCA started the free Community Climate Action Series to connect, educate, and empower the community through free and family-friendly events. Guest presenters share their knowledge of issues and solutions and build collective and individual skills, resilience, and well-being.
Over 49 sessions so far, a wide range of topics have been explored, including mending your clothes, bike maintenance, financial divestment, effectively engaging MPs, climate grief, forest therapy and reconciliation.
NUCA reimagined a different future through philosophy and wrote their own song called “Bloom” with the guidance and talent of Phil Hudson from Black Sheep Music Australia.

In 2022, the free program of events has been supported by a Council community grant and approximately $25,000 of in-kind support and volunteer hours (and baking!)
