Merri-bek Council and Community programs awarded

Merri-bek City Council and community programs were celebrated at this years Victorian Premier’s Sustainability Awards.

The My Smart Garden program won the Thriving Environment Category. My Smart Garden is a free sustainable gardening program that supports residents across 8 Melbourne councils including Merri-bek.

Wholefoods Unwrapped Collective won the Community Champion Category. The Collective reduces waste in the food system through the use of durable and reusable containers from paddock to plate. Wholefoods Unwrapped reaches 2,400 customers, with 100-plus regular customers, 45 food manufacturers, and 50-plus primary producers.

Nightingale Housing won the Sustainable Places Category. Six leading architecture firms partnered with Nightingale Housing to create Nightingale Village. A community of 203 all-electric homes in Brunswick that set a new standard for people-centred sustainable design.

Merri-bek City Council and Yarra City Council was a finalist in the Future Energy Category for the Unlocking Sustainable Strata program. The program supports sustainability in apartment buildings. It included the development of practical and evidence-based guides for cost-effective sustainability solutions in all types of strata buildings.
