WHAT CAN I DO?
By working together we can create a cleaner, healthier and safer environment for all members of our community. There is much we can do collectively at a local and regional level to reduce our carbon pollution. Merri-bek has many vibrant community groups acting on climate and environmental issues. Get involved and meet like-minded neighbours. We can also help your group, community organisation or school take action.
GET ACTIVE WITH A LOCAL GROUP
Get involved with one of the many organisations working in Merri-bek who are advocating or taking practical action on climate change.
CREATE YOUR OWN SMART GARDEN
My Smart Garden is a sustainable gardening program to adapt your garden to a changing climate.
JOIN A COMMUNITY GARDEN
Community gardens bring community members together and are environmentally friendly! In Merri-bek, there are a number of different community gardens.
SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAMS FOR SCHOOLS
Merri-bek provides free incursions on a range of sustainability topics for schools and early-learning centres in Merri-bek.
REPAIR, REUSE, BORROW & SWAP
Find a local repair café, tool library or toy library in Merri-bek.
JOIN SHAREWASTE OR FIND A COMPOST HUB
Donate your food scraps or share your compost bin with neighbours through Sharewaste or via one of the community composting hubs in Merri-bek.
RUN A LITTER COLLECTION
Join your neighbours to help clean up the creeks and parks in your area. Council can help you safely collect litter within Merri-bek.
JOIN AN INDUSTRY CLIMATE DECLARE GROUP
A number of industries have set up their own groups to declare a climate emergency and to advocate for change in their profession.
