While our Ride & Stride schools haven’t been able to do much riding or striding to school over Term 3, that hasn’t stopped kids from keeping active at home and in the community.
While home schooling has disrupted the usual school commute, many families are taking advantage of exploring their local neighbourhoods, getting out for daily exercise and spending quality time with their children on foot or bike.
We asked students at one of our Ride & Stride pilot schools, Coburg North Primary, to tell us how they’ve been riding and striding over lockdown to inspire fellow pupils and schools in Merri-bek to keep active, ready for Term 4!
Take a look at some of our favourite ideas!
Matilda, Grade 3:
Zoe, Foundation:
I went for a ride along the new bike path under the train track with my mum! It’s very cool – there are two parks which look like fun for when lockdown is over.
Eve, Grade 4:
Sadie, Foundation:
Me and my family go on a bike ride/scooter ride on the new bike path along the train line. We track our ride with an app on my dad’s phone so we can see where we went, how far we rode and how long we were riding for… it’s a fun part of my day!
Rowan, Grade 4:
I didn’t want to go running because it wasn’t my sport, but when I started running I could feel the power in my leg that’s when I knew this was my sport. I continued running every day and here I am now, I made it into the regional’s cross country. Every achievement starts with a start! So just have a go!
